A Brief Summary of This Position:
The Senior Director of Operations Leader will play an integral role in translating business strategy into goals and objectives across a region of manufacturing facilities. They will cultivate a culture of high-performance through, developing talent, engaging and empowering employees, and delivering on Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, and Cash. This role requires strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills, as well as a deep understanding of lean manufacturing processes and best practices.
Essential Functions:
- Lead a team across a region of manufacturing facilities to exceed customer expectations.
- Drive operational excellence methodologies to ensure increasing performance across Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, and Cash
- Safety: Cast a shadow of a leader that highlights the importance of safety and implement safety culture/programs that is in line with the company’s values and policies.
- Quality: Implement processes that drives in-process quality aligned with the Quality Management System.
- Delivery: Ensure on time delivery of our products to our customers’ expectations.
- Cost: Utilize Lean systems to eliminate waste across the manufacturing processes and deliver on productivity goals.
- Cash: Implement processes to tie replenishment systems to customer demand and ultimately optimizing inventory levels.
- Talent: Coach and mentor team members to develop into high performing individuals/leaders that can contribute to create high performing teams.
- Drives a Lean culture across the region following Shingo methodology as Valmont’s primary Lean culture model.
- Develop and implement a three-year plan in line with the company objectives and to promote revenue, profitability, and volume growth.
- Work with the Plant Managers to create Annual Operating Plans (AOP) and deliver on those commitments.
- Review performance in line with the operating tempo and use problem solving methodologies (RCCM) to improve results.
- Establish a work environment aligned with Valmont’s Core Values to maintain a good employee morale and be the employer of choice.
- Other Duties/Responsibilities include:
- Ensure proper resource management and allocation.
- Ensure proper capital planning and allocation.
- Lead the operations function in the integration of acquisitions as needed.
Other Important Details about the Role:
- Experience in Lean plant management and operational excellence to include program management, strategy deployment, project execution, and implementation.
- Demonstrated experience effectively managing others while facilitating and delivering results to a business.
- Effective facilitation skill set for interaction with all levels of the organization.
- Strong Leadership skills and effective at motivating and managing vision and purpose.
- The ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Aptitude of making decisions involving varied levels of risk and ambiguity
- Ability to organize and manage multiple, simultaneous priorities and meet aggressive deadlines.
- A broad knowledge of the material, costs, techniques, and processes used within the manufacturing industry.
- The ability to work independently and in a team environment, building relationships with all levels of employees.
- A customer-focused, results and change leader.
- Reports to Vice President Operations North America Infrastructure, with multiple direct and indirect reports.
Required Qualifications of Every Candidate:
- Bachelor’s degree with 10+ years of experience in manufacturing and engineering environments
- MBA or MS Technical degree preferred.
- A solid understanding of Lean principles and methodology
- The ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 50% of the time.
Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications:
- A master’s degree.
- Professional experience in multiple manufacturing processes, supporting different business models.
- Previous multi-site work experience developing and growing a business.
